Species Information

General:
Perennial herb from short stem-bases and black fibrous roots; flowering stems 9-30 cm tall, glandular-hairy.
Leaves:
Basal leaves round, oblanceolate or egg- to spoon-shaped, 2-8.5 cm long, 8-25 mm wide, 9- to 21- toothed, sparsely soft-hairy, often purplish below; stalks wide; stem leaves lacking.
Flowers:
Inflorescence a terminal, many-flowered, open cluster, the bracts linear, purple; petals white, 2-3 mm long, distinctly 1-veined; calyces green, sometimes purplish, the lobes 5, egg-shaped to lanceolate, 1.2-3 mm long, minutely fringed, bent back; stamens 10.
Fruits:
Follicles, 3-6 mm long, usually purplish.
